CANADIAN POSTAL SERVICE CHANGES 32,000 POSTAL CODES
Companies whose rates use Canadian postal codes need to evaluate their data in light of recent changes made to Canadian Postal Codes.
The 1997 reissue of the Canadian Postal Code Directory contains in excess of 32,000 changes. These reflect a combination of expanded postal codes, incorporation of formerly rural postal codes into major urban centers and the introduction of new postal codes. Shippers, carriers and third parties who use postal codes to determine rates to or from points in Canada will find their data seriously out of date, with rate errors the inevitable result.
Portions of major centers may have no rates or the rates may have changed without anyone’s realization.
The Freight Carriers Association (FCA) and the Niagara Frontier Tariff Bureau (NFB) have recently completed a thorough review of the new postal code directory and have incorporated the changes into their postal code database. This database, available to all interested parties, as well as analysis of how the changes impact the data and/or rates of individual companies are two examples of a broad range of services being offered by FCA/NFB. Additional information is available by contacting the FCA/NFB at (800) 559-7421 or by checking their web site at http://www.fca-nftb.org.
